Classical music dance lovers are in for a treat following the unveiling of the dance programme by the South African Ballet Theatre (SABT) company recently.
In their dance programme unfolding from July 12, with the performance of DonQuixote at the State Theatre in Tshwane, ballet fans will be treated to great dancing as well as exposed to new ballet talent.
SABT has a busy few months ahead.
The Ballet Highlights season opens on July 12 at the South African State Theatre, Pretoria, and runs until July 22.
The season consists of two new additions to the company's repertoire, the romantic Les Sylphides and the fiery Don Quixote, set in sunny Spain.
Several notable debuts are made this season, among them Lorna Maseko as Kitri and Andile Ndlovu as Basilio on Don Quixote on July 13.
Because there are just nine performances in the Ballet Highlights season, patrons are urged to book their tickets through Computicket as soon as possible so that they can see these two ballets for the price of one in one performance.
SABT principal dancers Angela Malan and Iain MacDonald join guest artists from London's Royal Ballet for two special Royal Ballet Gala performances on July 21.
This will be to raise funds for the Dancing for the Children Foundation founded by Royal Ballet principal artist Mara Galeazzi.
Malan and MacDonald will appear in Veronica Paeper's thrilling Spartacus Pas De Deux.
SABT then presents the full length Swan Lake, the world's most popular ballet, at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre from August 24 to September.
This season is accompanied by The Johannesburg Festival Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Graham Scott and brings the magic Tchaikovsky's score to life with characters such as the swan maiden, Odette, and her evil impersonator, Odile.
SABT joins forces with two of the province's premier companies: Moving Into Dance Mophatong and Ballet Theatre Afrikan at the yearly Arts Alive Festival.
Under the banner of Dance 3 -The Power of Three, the season runs from September 26 to 30. Performances of Gregory Maqoma's Neon Flight, Flesh and Jukebox Gentleman by Andrea Schermoly take place at Uncle Tom's Hall Soweto, The Dance Factory, Newtown and Aleksan Kopano Community Centre, Alexandra.
