Okonkwo: victim of circumstances

Confession time. The Umkhozi crew has been sitting with information that could have saved former Orlando Pirates midfielder Onyekachi Okonkwo the wrath of his club.

Confession time. The Umkhozi crew has been sitting with information that could have saved former Orlando Pirates midfielder Onyekachi Okonkwo the wrath of his club.

Well, now that the fiery one has now left the country and reportedly shuttling between Switzerland and Germany where he has signed two contracts with two different teams, it is time to tell all.

Remember Onye-kachiii (right pronounciation) was charged and slapped with a hefty fine for absconding when, in fact, the poor chap was a victim of circumstances.

He had spent last Christmas and Boxing Day in a mental institution under heavy sedation.

No, he doesn't have a mental condition, it was one of those days when things went completely wrong.

It was on Christmas Eve, when an excited Okonkwo accepted a lift from a group of Pirates supporting paramedics in an ambulance that ferries mental patients to and from Sterkfontein.

With the festive spirit in the air, Okonkwo gladly sat at the back with his half-jack of brandy.

The paramedics had clearly downed a few themselves and continued as they did their rounds. Not the biggest of drinkers, Okonkwo passed out and the para-medics forgot their passenger at the back, parked the official vehicle at the hospital and headed home.

When the evening crew came in for a routine check on the vehicle they sadly discovered that the dayshift guys had forgotten to offload a patient.

Or did they deliberately leave the "problem" for the nightshift?

Paramedic 1: "Nurse, can you come and help, looks like we have a patient who needs to be checked in. Hey, you must be careful, looks like the guy who wanted to strangle Daniel Bennet.

Nurse: "Oh! It's this one. I always suspected something was wrong. I have always warned my kids how dangerous this nyaope is (combination of dagga and Mandrax while also addressing Okonkwo as he struggled to open his eyes). Bona mahlo a teng, okare o nwele skala sa madi (look at his bloodshot eyes).

Okonkwo: "No, I. Let me explain this. I am not..."

Nurse: "Hei, Doctor, Doctor come quickly he look wilds! (Doctor comes rushing with the biggest syringe you've ever seen and gives Okonkwo a shot that knocks the poor fellow down).

Christmas Day (Okonkwo wakes up to find his hands and feet tightly tied to a bed as the nurse walks in).

Nurse: "How can you sacrifice such a bright career for drugs. Look at you."

Okonkwo (getting seriously agitated): For the last time I am not mad, sick or whatever

Nurse: "Doctor!" (Doctor comes rushing and floors the Pirates star with another shot)

It went on like that until the Christmas Eve shift came back after two days and it is only after they had explained that he was released.
