The eThekwini municipality has warned residents to be on the look out for criminals posing as data collectors as the council embarks on a campaign to assess the market value of all properties within its jurisdiction.

Data collectors and property valuators are visiting sectional title schemes to verify and obtain necessary information.

Keith Martians, head of Real Estates, said data collection was taking place "throughout the metro".

"Property owners must ensure that data collectors are in possession of identity cards and a letter of appointment from the municipality. They will also be in possession of a form that relates specifically to the scheme for which the data is to be collected. The cooperation of sectional title owners, building supervisors and scheme managers is requested," said Martians

The identities of data collectors can be verified by calling 031-328-1117.
