Current and former Springbok rugby players Chiliboy Rallepelle, Divan Serfontein, Chris Rossouw and Rob Louw will be swopping football gear for cycles next month as they take part in the yearly Cansa Cycle Classic.

Ex-Springbok Rossouw is proud to be taking part.

"I am a cancer recoverer myself so I know what it is like for people who suffer from this illness. Also, my child has just returned from America where she underwent a bone marrow transplant," he said.

"It has been a tough couple of years and now I can give back to the Cancer Association, who have been so good to me."

Now in its 10th year, the race is going to be held as a two-day event split between a mountain bike event and the normal cycle classic (road).

Over the past nine years more than R1,7 million has been raised for cancer sufferers and organisers said they aim to raise R300 000 this year to break the magic R2million mark.

"The proceeds will go to the North West Cancer Association," said race organiser Johan du Toit. The event will be held at Sun City on August 25 and 26.
