Former undefeated WBA and IBF junior lightweight world champion Brian Mitchell and his wife, Juanita, showed their generosity this week by donating R10 000 to Ubuhle Bezwe House in Tembisa.
They won the Celebrity Rockin' Roulette Charity Challenge at Emperors Palace two weeks ago.
The gaming promotion is running at the "Palace of dreams" in Kempton Park until the end of July.
Juanita and Brian, who came first and third, respectively, chose Ubuhle Bezwe House and donated 50 percent of their winnings.
Ubuhle Bezwe House takes care of children with HIV-Aids and the homeless, or those who do not have parents.
"I had been doing charity work for many years before I left the country for America. Now that I am back in the country, I get invited to gamble or play golf for charity," Brian said.
"This has become my project. I am being assisted by Emperors Palace. It is something that we will be doing quiet often in the future."
Brian rose to fame in 1983 after winning the South African title from Chris Whiteboy.
He will be best remembered for four fierce battles with Jacob "Dancing Shoes" Morake, who won the first clash in 1982.
Their fourth clash in 1985 ended tragically. Morake collapsed in the dying moments of the 12th round.
He was rushed to hospital and died the following day.
Mitchell went on to win the WBA belt.
He relinquished the title after 12 defences in 1990 to fight for the IBF belt, which he won in the second fight with Tony Lopez in 1991.
