Cops, taxi operators in cahoots

The row between taxi operators and buses is getting out of hand. I saw the Louis Botha Avenue, Corlett Drive, Marlboro Drive and Old Pretoria Road flooded with stranded passengers. These people were thrown out of buses because taxi operators wanted them to use their taxis. It was sickening to see senior citizens being abused like that.

Another thing that puzzled me was that Mokgatle Mnisi, of Armstra, said: "The taxi drivers wanted to check if buses had permits and were authorised to use that route."

That's rubbish. Who are they to determine and allocate the routes?

There are people commuting from as far afield as Soweto to Wynberg, Midrand, Sandton. Taxi people are scared of competition. How much do commuters pay and how many taxis do they use and how long do they have to wait in those queues?

All this carnage happens in full view of the police who are reluctant to intervene; the reason being that they own the very same taxis and also taverns. How do you expect them to curb the violence when they are harbouring and hiring criminals?
