Shelve the Springbok logo

I have tried to give Saru the benefit of the doubt in the past because I had hoped that it would transform.

I think even former president Nelson Mandela had the same hopes when he donned Francois Pienaar's No 6 jersey at the 1995 Rugby World Cup final.

Maybe the Springbok logo is the problem. Who knows, perhaps if we get rid of the logo Saru might realise that transformation is here to stay.

Thabo writes about the Springboks' achievements since 1994. What achievements if I might ask? The only achievement I can think of is non-transformation. I cannot go as far as classifying the logo as the country's heritage and I believe many former black Springboks will agree.

We should get rid of everything from the apartheid era that seeks to frustrate the new order. By the way, what makes the rugby Springboks so special? All the other sports with the Springbok logo during apartheid have adopted the Protea as the new logo. Those sports have moved on.

The fact that rugby has managed to hold onto their logo gives rugby bosses the wrong idea because they think that they can get away with almost anything. Shelve the Springbok logo and let's see.
