Mpumalanga police have not lost hope of finding the owner of a penis that was found dumped in a man's yard in November last year.

A man from Mahushu, near Hazyview, stumbled on the adult-size circumcised penis on his doorstep last November and called the police. Since then police have been searching for a man with a missing penis.

Masoyi police station commissioner Superintendent Bheki Thabethe said their search has now spread to areas outside the Lowveld.

"We have not lost hope yet. The search is still on for the owner of the penis," said Thabethe yesterday.

A family that suspected that the penis could be that of their grandfather who was buried without his private parts in February last year could not get the DNA results to match.

The old man was found dead on the street with his private parts missing and his killers were never found. Thabethe said there was no proof that the organ belonged to a member of the family.

The penis is being kept at a government mortuary and if investigations fail to find the owner, the organ will be burnt. Police said the penis was sprinkled with black powder, which made them believe it was a muti-murder case.

This is not the first time a human penis had traumatised the people of the province.

In 2004 a suspected serial killer and rapist, Kholizwe Masina, 21, made headline news when he allegedly brought a bloodied penis to a tavern and used it to threaten patrons.
