Taxi trip to hell

Two women described in the Cape Town regional court yesterday how a taxi driver had mugged them in separate incidents.

Two women described in the Cape Town regional court yesterday how a taxi driver had mugged them in separate incidents.

Both had been blindfolded but managed to identify the driver because they were able to see through the blindfold, they said.

The women were testifying before magistrate Wilma van der Merwe in the case of Mogamat Lottering, in his mid-20s, who pleaded not guilty to three counts of aggravated robbery.

Lottering is alleged to have robbed Bronwyn Petersen and Lorraine Pindela during in July last year.

He is also accused of robbing Nervina Pillay in August last year.

Lottering claims he had an alibi in the three cases. He claims he was mistakenly identified by the women.

Petersen told the court that on July 9 she was waiting for a taxi after work in Sea Point, when Lottering's taxi drove past.

He then made a U-turn and picked her up. - Sapa
