The manager of a business in Mpumalanga, who allegedly masterminded a R1million robbery at the store, was released on R20000 bail yesterday .

Hanif Pathan, 30, manager of Minty's Wholesalers in Bushbuckridge, and cashier Sophie Malele were not asked to plead in the local magistrates' court on robbery and perjury charges. The case was postponed to July 17.

Malele was released on bail of R15000.

Pathan and Malele allegedly conspired with two men to stage the robbery last week.

About R1million was stolen when two armed men held up staff at gunpoint.

Pathan allegedly made false statements to the police. Investigations later allegedly implicated him in the robbery.

He had allegedly confessed to his bosses that he had planned the robbery and wanted to use the money to make up for stock losses.

The two robbers are still at large and it is not clear if they had given Pathan his share of the stolen money.

Pathan's bail conditions require him to report at the Nelspruit police station every afternoon.

He must also inform the investigating officer whenever he leaves the area.
