A manager of an established Mpumalanga wholesaler has been arrested for allegedly masterminding a R1million robbery at the store.
The 30-year-old manager of Minty's Wholesalers in Bushbuckridge allegedly conspired with two men and cashiers at the wholesaler to stage a robbery. He promised his partners in the crime a share of the loot.
About R1million was stolen from the store when two armed men held up staff, including the manager, at gunpoint.
Superintendent Botsotso Moukangwe, head of the police's Serious and Violent Crime Unit in Mpumalanga, said the manager and a teller will appear in court today on charges of perjury and armed robbery.
"The manager made false statements to the police. But investigations later revealed that he was involved in the crime," said Moukangwe.
The manager has allegedly confessed to his bosses that he had planned the robbery and wanted to use the money to make up for stock losses.
The two men who executed the crime are at large and it is not clear if they had given the manager his share of the loot.
