Police in Kranskop, on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast, have launched a manhunt for suspects who allegedly robbed, raped and kidnapped a mother and her three-year-old daughter on Tuesday.
The mother and child, however, returned home safely yesterday.
Police said the two suspects broke into the victim's house at about 10pm on Tuesday in Sinyambothi while the husband and wife were asleep with their child. They robbed the family and raped the wife.
Police spokesman Zethembe Chonco said: "They took turns in raping the woman and stole whatever they could lay their hands on and left.
"But soon after, they returned and kidnapped the mother and child. All this time, the father was watching helplessly."
Chonco said the family were traumatised by what had happened. Police searched for the victims the whole night.
The search continued yesterday and the mother and child returned home at lunch time.
