U-23 tourney ideal for finding talent

Under-23 coach Steve Komphela says the Sasol Eight Nations tournament will present his technical staff with an opportunity to assess the abundance of talent in South Africa.

Komphela made this point at the official launch of this year's tournament at a media briefing in Sandton yesterday.

Some of the aspirant youngsters who will make their debut are Habonina Khubone, Alpheus Kekana, Daylon Classen, Clive Mayo-Modise and George Maluleke.

The tournament will take place from June 27 with the finals scheduled for Olen Park Stadium, in Potchefstroom, on July 25.

The eight teams are China, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Lesotho, Botswana, Egypt, Cameroon and hosts South Africa.

Teams have been divided into two groups with South Africa, China, Cameroon and Botswana in Group A, while Ivory Coast, Egypt and Ghana are in group B.

Squad:

Goalkeepers - Itumeleng Khune, Andre Petim, Senzo Meyiwa.

Defenders - Calvin Sosibo, Innocent Mungomeni, Kirk Leray, Khubone, Rudi Isaacs, Nazeer Allie, Kekana.

Midfielders - Mkhanyiseli Siwahla, Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, Kagiso Senamela, Sandile Zuke, Bongani Mbhele, Sibusiso Msomi, Classen, Graham King, Philani Shange.

Strikers - Mayo-Modise, Eleazar Rodgers, Sibusiso Ntuli, Excellent Walaza, Nhlanhla Vilakazi, George Maluleke, Erwin Isaacs.
