I would like to thank N Ntsheyiya for the letter on the South African Blood Service (SABS) about it selling the blood that is donated by responsible, generous citizens.
The organisation splits one bag of blood in many different ways and this is sold to several different parties, which results in outrageous profits.
If you are a donor and in need of a blood transfusion you pay ridiculous amounts, possibly for your own blood.
Before the SABS tries to justify itself by saying it has operational costs and so on, I'd like it to give the public a simple balance sheet of its income and expenses.
It might be registered as a non-profit organisation but it is definitely making huge profits.
The new SABS building just off the N1 highway near Hillfox is enough evidence for me.
I'm sure a proper investigation will reveal South Africa's goriest gravy train.
The SABS should not try to defend itself by explaining why it doesn't pay people for their blood. That is not the issue.
