A Bolobedu, Limpopo, man is wanted by police in connection with the alleged rape of his 14-year-old cousin.

The 29-year-old man will face charges of statutory rape.

The incident allegedly happened on Monday at GaThako village in Bolobedu, outside Tzaneen.

The victim, who cannot be identified because she is still a minor, lived with the suspect and his parents following the death of her parents a few years ago.

The suspect's parents had gone out shopping at the time of the alleged rape.

Speaking to Sowetan on Tuesday, the victim said she was asleep in her room when the suspect forced the door open. He was naked.

When she asked him what he wanted in her room, the suspect allegedly responded by saying he wanted to teach her a lesson about men.

"I was still surprised what kind of lesson I was going to be taught when he suddenly grabbed me and forced me to undress," said the Grade 8 pupil.

When she resisted the suspect allegedly assaulted her, the victim said. "He then ordered me to lie down and he raped me."

The suspect's brother said the man fled when he was caught in the act by his parents.

Police spokesman Miyelani Shikwambane confirmed that they were investigating a case of statutory rape.
