Korean car manufacturer Hyundai is clearly not prepared to let anyone upset its mission to become a world-class producer of cars. This is evident in its recent releases.
The 40-year-old car maker's emphasis is on the B- and C-segments of the car market.
Their Hyundai Elantra has been around for some time, and many of us are familiar with it. But the latest model, launched last week, is an altogether different story.
The new model has undergone extensive changes in design, style and technology.
Purely based on its exterior appearance, the Elantra is set to make significant strides within its segment. The Elantra's design philosophy consists of harmonising opposites, of taking sharp modern styling and soft, contoured curves to craft a car full of passion and personality.
Its interior promises a mobile habitat with the design, comfort and ergonomic sophistication to impress and pamper all occupants.
The Elantra offers a choice of two modern petrol engines. It is available in a 1,6 and 2litre 16 valve twin-cam engine.
Its peak power is 89kW at 6200rpm and it provides torque of 153Nm at 4200rpm.
It is also available in both 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmissions.
Compared with the previous model, the new 1,6 CVVT engine provides 13kW more power and 10Nm more torque.
The potent 2,0litre 16-valve twin-cam CVVT engine boasts maximum power of 105kW and maximum torque of 186Nm at 4600rpm.
For a car in this market segment, the Elantra offers top safety features.
These include speed sensing door lock and impact sensing door unlock, which ensure the occupants are kept safe inside the Elantra's redesigned safety cell.
It also ensures occupants are able to exit the car in the event of a collision.
Dual airbags complete an overall impressive array of safety features.
All new Elantra derivatives come standard with a three-year or 100000km full factory warranty and a three-year 60000km full maintenance plan.
