One of the biggest independent churches in South Africa, the International Pentecostal Church, has lost a prominent member, David Mthombeni.

Mthombeni, who served the church for more than 30 years, died in his sleep on June 9.

Affectionately known as "Tata", Mthombeni was a dedicated member and he served as the national programme director and reverend for the church in Dobsonville.

He is survived by his wife, children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He will be buried today at the Roodepoort Cemetery.

The service will be held at Kopanong Community Hall from 9am.
