President Thabo Mbeki has "rejected" the Moseneke recommendations that would give him a salary increase of more than 57percent.

Public Service and Administration Minister Geraldine Fraser- Moleketi yesterday said discussions continued between Mbeki and deputy chief justice Dikgang Moseneke on the matter.

Cabinet spokesman Themba Maseko said it was the "prerogative" of the president to decide on the salary increases for cabinet ministers and MPs.

Maseko said the president would make an announcement once talks with Moseneke have been completed.

He said there has been "misinformation" on the matter and that political office bearers have not received this increase.

"Nothing could be further from the truth. The recommendations are exactly that and government has not accepted that."
