Kwazi Mbanjwa has been appointed KwaZulu-Natal director-general with immediate effect.
Mbanjwa has been director-general designate since May after his predecessor Mandla Mchunu stepped down.
Premier Sibusiso Ndebele expressed confidence in the new director-general, saying he would carry on the good work started by his predecessor, especially in service delivery and good governance.
"As former KwaZulu-Natal transport head of department, Mbanjwa brings with him a wealth of public service experience and an impeccable record as a manager and team leader," Ndebele said.
"I have no doubt he will bring to completion all outstanding government business in this province."
Mbanjwa has served the second-longest term as provincial department head after Sipho Shabalala, provincial treasury chief.
