A long-awaited book version of the Heritage Manuscript handed to Mpumalanga Premier Thabang Makwetla last year will finally be launched.

The 544-page book, entitled Mpumalanga: History and Heritage, will be launched tomorrow at Botshabelo Heritage site in Middelburg.

Department of Art, Sports and Culture spokesman Zanele Gama said a collaboration between the provincial government and a team of South African academics had resulted in the publication of the work chronicling the history of Mpumalanga.

"It is the culmination of a three-year-long multidisciplinary study by a group of academics led by Peter Delius of the University of the Witwatersrand," said Gama.

The project was undertaken at the behest of Makwetla.

The project has been funded by the Mpumalanga government, the National Heritage Council and First National Bank. The book is published by the University of KwaZulu-Natal Press.
