An Eastern Cape woman was allegedly assaulted by a policeman when she went to report her son missing.

Nolusindiso Dyani, whose 16-year old son has been missing for three weeks, is worried that the case she opened against the policeman might not be investigated.

Dyani, who works for the provincial Social Services Department, said her ordeal started when she travelled from her home in King William's Town to Mthatha last week after she heard that someone had seen her son near Mthatha.

She went to the Madeira police station and asked for help. She said she was attended to by a policeman who was not wearing a name tag, but was later identified as Inspector Jabulani Madikane. After a long wait, Madikane allegedly said it was station policy not to help in such matters.

When Dyani challenged the policy, Madikane allegedly screamed at her, and then allegedly slapped her.

Investigating officer Inspector Wonga Roto confirmed that Dyani had opened a case of common assault against Madikane.
