Police are on the hunt for a gang of four men who abducted a Winterveldt woman and raped her for more than seven hours.

Inspector Paul Ramaloko said yesterday that the men held up the woman, 37, and her husband at gunpoint at about 10pm on Sunday and robbed them of household goods. They loaded the stolen goods into the couple's car, put the man in the boot, and drove off with his wife in the back.

"They grabbed me and wrestled me to the floor and tied both my legs and hands together with string," the husband said.

"I managed to cut the string by rubbing against a steel camping chair in the boot and battled for some time to open it.

"Miraculously the boot opened and I jumped out while the car was moving, landing on my back.

"They stopped and started firing at me as I ran for my life."

He returned home to discover his wife was missing and contacted the police.

His wife has reported that the men took turns raping her next to the car in open veld.

At about 5.30am on Monday she was helped by passers-by and taken to hospital.
