Veteran marathoner Willie Mtolo has expressed his keenness to help beginners to take part in the yearly Comrades Marathon in future.
"This is part of my commitment to plough back [my knowledge] into the community of KwaZulu-Natal and I will be happy to see more of my runners taking part in the Comrades Marathon," Mtolo said.
"I'm currently preparing three beginners from KwaZulu-Natal for the event and I want to train more from the province next year. I will be happy to see them finish the race this year. We are covering 160km per week and I'm convinced they will be more than ready for the race," he added.
Mtolo, who came second in the Comrades in 1989 and 2002, has teamed up with another running legend Bruce Fordyce to prepare the novices for the race.
The two have joined forces with The Sports Trust.
Fordyce won the testing ultra-marathon an incredible eight times in succession, and nine times overall, to make the race his own throughout the 1980s.
The race is the world's biggest ultra-marathon and drew a record 23 000 entrants in 2 000.
It remains the ultimate human race and this year's event will feature a strong charity drive.
