A 46-year-old taxi boss was found dead and covered in blood, with a gun in his hand on Wednesday.
This followed a shooting at Holy Cross, near Flagstaff in the Oliver Tambo district in the Eastern Cape, when a quarrel broke out between members of the Border Alliance Taxi Association from Lusikisiki and those from Flagstaff.
The quarrel, which started over the Mthontshasa route, has claimed the life of Mthuthuzeli Ntshingila. Two other taxi drivers were also shot and admitted to Holy Cross Hospital.
Police spokesman Captain Mduduzi Godlwana said there had long been conflict over the route.
"This started a long time ago and there have been threats between members of the association." He said the confusion was about the "cross-border issue", as Mthontshasa village fell under Lusikisiki but was situated in the Flagstaff area.
Godlwana said cases of murder and attempted murder were being investigated.
