Hosting the South African Games in Bloemfontein from September 23 to 29 should be seen as a test run to check if Free State is ready to host some of the 2010 Soccer World Cup games.
Free State MEC for sports arts and culture Susan Mnumzana, said this at a media briefing, adding that the province was ready to host the five-day event.
"Free State will host this tournament at a time when our preparations and ability to host the 2010 World Cup are receiving so much attention.
"As the Free State government and the Mangaung local municipality, we intend to host the best SA Games ever," Mnumzana said.
The chairman of the 2010 Soccer World Cup local organising committee, Jerry Segwaba, said he was also confident the province would host successful games.
The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) resolved that the games should be held in rotation by the provinces.
Eastern Cape held the games in 2004, followed by KwaZulu-Natal in 2005. Gauteng hosted the inaugural event in 2002.
More than 6000 athletes are expected to gather in Bloemfontein for the games.
Athletes from all nine provinces will participate in 13 sporting codes.
