The public service strike is getting out of hand. Our children's lives are at risk. Our brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers who want to return to work are also at risk.

I believe that the Department of Public Service and Administration is waiting for people to die before they make a better offer. The country does not need that.

The unions and the government share a common goal. During their consultations before any wage negotiations even started, they must have discussed the salary increases of the public sector. But now it seems that politics is at work. I am not a public servant, but I know that workers in the public sector are poorly paid. Their bosses on the other hand are getting fatter and fatter because they are receiving such big salary increases.

All those who have been in the public service for more than 10 years have been failed by this government as far as salary increases are concerned.

The offer on the table is going to divide the workers instead of uniting them.

I appeal to Fraser-Moleketi to make the public service a better and fairer place to work in.
