Stan Mathabatha, LimDev managing director, says the Limpopo parastatal is committed to making the Peter Mokaba Golf Challenge a success story and will continue to back the yearly event.
Mathabatha was speaking at the launch of the sixth edition of the Challenge in Polokwane earlier this week. His company pledged R170000 towards this year's event that will be staged at the local golf course on June 16.
"We feel honoured to be part of the Peter Mokaba Golf Challenge and we have been backing this tournament before and we will continue doing so in the future," Mathabatha said.
"Our investment in sport activities in the province is part of advancing the mandate from the government to contribute towards the development of sport in the country.
"We have sponsored a young golfer from Polokwane by the name of Willie Baloyi and we are proud today because he is a professional golfer.
"Our brand is our people and our people are our brand and we strongly believe in this motto."
South African Breweries is backing the Peter Mokaba event for R30000, the Polokwane Municipality has pumped in R20000 and Karibu Printers have put aside R10000. Other sponsors have also contributed.
Nolan Klaasen, Lega's president, thanked their sponsors and people of Limpopo for making the tournament a success.
"We are using golf as a tool to promote our province and business and we are encouraged by the support we have been getting from various companies in Limpopo."
More than 160 golfers from across the country are expected to compete in the Challenge.
People of Limpopo will bank on golfers such as Malebana Pataki, Joe Mathebula, Chicks Mogotsi, Zack Chuenyane, Pat Moyaha and Linus Warrinda to make the province proud on June 16.
The dates for other events that form part of the Peter Mokaba Golf Challenge have also been confirmed by the provincial controlling body.
The junior competition will be played on September 21 and the inter-club challenge will be staged two days later, both in Polokwane.
