The public servants national strike has pitted the striking workers against police, and strikers against non-strikers. Nasty incidents that have been witnessed include:
l Last week police used stun grenades to disperse protesters at Tygerberg hospital in Cape Town. They had allegedly blocked the entrance to the hospital.
l On Monday, Durban police fired stun grenades at protesters who had allegedly invaded Addington hospital. Police arrested 20 nurses for allegedly attacking non-striking staff.
l Again on Monday, a school principal, two pupils and a school cleaner at St George Primary School in Ennerdale, south of Johannesburg were allegedly attacked by striking teachers.
l On Tuesday, eight girls from Kebonang High School in North West, were released into the custody of their parents after they had been arrested on Monday. Their arrest followed an altercation with striking teachers.
l On Wednesday, striking teachers fired shots at the car of a man who had come to collect his son from Malvern Primary School. The bullets smashed the car windows and no one was hurt.
l Yesterday, Radio 702 reported that parents were called by schools to fetch children because of more reports of intimidation at the schools.
The station said a parent called to say he had been phoned to collect his daughter from Buccleuch Primary School.
