Strike snags high court

By unknown | Jun 06, 2007 | COMMENTS [ 0 ]

A judge might have to use his notes to reconstruct evidence after it emerged that Monday's trial proceedings might not have been recorded.

Proceedings in the Johannesburg high court have been disrupted since Friday, when court officials downed tools to support the public service strike.

It is not clear if the cause was a technical error or if the person standing in for the stenographer could not operate the recording machine.

Public service workers went on an indefinite strike after the government refused to give in to their demand of a 12percent wage increase.

Yesterday stenographers, interpreters, cleaners and administration officials picketed outside the court building. - Khanyisile Nkosi
