Ravele lauds car company

Ntambi Ravele, top South African sports administrator, has applauded DaimlerChrysler for their commitment to the upliftment of sport in the country.

This was after the German car manufacturers donated R1 million to the South African structure of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.

The foundation in South Africa does not only focus on sport, but also on other projects that help young people to face and address challenging social issues.

They include poverty, homelessness, violence, the abuse of substances, discrimination and the deadly HIV-Aids.

Ravele, a member of the foundation who also works for the PSL as communications manager, said: "We appreciate the continuous support by DaimlerChrysler South Africa. We are able to assist many young South Africans realise their dreams through the financial support from companies like them."

Some of the projects managed by the foundation include the Buffalo City Soccer School in East London, the Alexandra Football Academy, Helderberg Partnership Centre in Cape Town and Fight with Insight, a boxing initiative for young offenders in the southern suburbs of Johannesburg.

Retired boxer Baby Jake Matlala, former Bafana Bafana player John "Dungi" Moeti, swimmer Natalie du Toit and marathoner Ernst van Dyk are ambassadors of the foundation. Morne de Plessis, a former Springbok, is chairman of the foundation.
