Stofile to brief AU ministers on 2010

Makhenkesi Stofile, minister of sports and recreation, is leading a high powered South African delegation to Ethiopia on Thursday on 2010 World Cup matters.

Esther Mogotsi, 2010 World Cup government unit's spokesman, said Stofile will brief the African Union ministers of sports on the preparations for the World Cup.

"The minister will talk on the state of readiness for the World Cup, he will also make an input on behalf of South Africa with regard to the African Legacy Programme."

Stofile is the chairman of the 2010 World Cup South African Legacy Committee. His committee is charged with the coordination and ensuring all stakeholders contribute towards the legacy programme and deliver their respective commitment.

Also accompanying Stofile to Addis Ababa will be Dan Moyo, government unit's chief director and Malusi Mahlulo, sports and recreation international relations director.

Some of the projects identified by government and host cities aimed at leaving a legacy through the World Cup include the renovation of stadia.

Others are training facilities, transport network linkages, public transport system and information communications.
