A benchmark for auction attendances and clientele transformation was set by Aucor last week when more than 200 bidders flocked to a taxi fleet auction at the company's compound in Midrand.
"Booming business in the auction industry has spread the bidder's market wide and we've been working towards getting more feet to cross our threshold.
Last Wednesday it all came together in a major way," said Aucor's car disposal expert, Mark Nossel.
Bidding started at 10.30am and Aucor's large hangar was packed with 125 cars of all shapes and sizes.
Of particular interest to the buyers were 23 Toyota HiAce taxis from a deceased estate.
Though condemned by the government's taxi recapitalisation programme, they generally sold well, triggering a few tough bid battles.
One taxi, a 2001 HiAce GL Super 16, fetched R106000. A 2004 model of the same specifications went for R115000.
Another noteworthy sale was a Volkswagen Jetta 4,2 litre, which sold for R81000.
Aucor will hold another super car auction tomorrow. Aucor's Super Saturday car auctions start at 12 noon.
At least 90 "flashy" cars will come on the auction block.
Some of the lots include a 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS 500 with 23000km on the clock, a 2006 Jeep Sahara 4litre with only 2400km on the clock, as well as a 2003 Chrysler Crossfire Coupe, a 2006 Mercedes-Benz B200 and a VW Golf FSI 2litre.
