KZN slammed for non-delivery

The KwaZulu-Natal government was yesterday taken to task about the lack of service delivery in the impoverished area of Msinga in the province's Midlands.

The locals complained that Msinga, one of the poorest areas in the province, has been ravaged by multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extreme drug-resistant (XDR) tuberculosis, with little intervention by the provincial government.

Since 2005 TB strains have claimed the lives of 310 people in the area. This week the provincial government visited the area as part of their "taking government to the people" programme.

The meeting began with the ANC accusing the IFP of trying to sabotage the programme by blocking people from attending. The IFP leads the district and four other local municipalities.

Premier S'bu Ndebele yesterday visited the area to listen to the complaints and to report back on the government's plan to eradicate poverty.
