Mpumalanga police have arrested a 47-year-old man for keeping a Swazi teenager as a sex slave for a week.
The man from KaMhlushwa in Mpumalanga was arrested on Monday when he accompanied the 14-year-old girl to shops to buy her clothes.
Police spokesman, Constable Mzwandile Nyambi, said the man was arrested after staff at the shop notified the police. The staff became suspicious because the girl looked "filthy".
Nyambi said the suspect took the girl from her mother in Swaziland after he told her he was going to buy the teenager clothes in South Africa.
When they arrived in South Africa, the man locked her in a house and allegedly repeatedly raped her for seven days.
"He allegedly told her that she was not the first girl he had slept with," said Nyambi.
The man will appear in court soon on a rape charge.
