I would like to compliment the Limpopo Youth Commission and the Public Works Department for a job well done on the National Youth Service programme. The move followed the president's call for volunteerism.

The overwhelming response by the huge number of young people to volunteer for the programme is a clear indication that the majority of young people in the province, and the rest of the country, are still facing massive unemployment.

The project will definitely give young people skills in various fields which they will hopefully use to improve their lives.

I would also like to applaud all the young people for showing such interest in the programme by volunteering their services.

I was actually touched to see that there are so many young people in our country who really want to help by providing their services for free.

I hope that other institutions will also follow what the youth commission and the the works department are doing in trying to build a patriotic and selfless citizenry among our youth.

It is programmes such as these that divert young people from crime, rape and other destructive activities. Well done to the youth commission and the department.
