Renowned traditional healer Sylvester Hlati, has done it again.

On Friday pupils, staff and parents at the impoverished Dambalaswe Primary School in Shayandima township in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, were thrilled when Hlati gave 10 pit toilets and 80 chairs to the school. The school, which had only two pit toilets , has a pupil enrolment of 450.

Amid chants of "Viva Dr Hlati", the school governing body chairman Agnes Mulaudzi thanked Hlati.

Mulaudzi said though they wrote to several people, only Hlati acted on their SOS call.

"We feel this man has been sent by God because we did not know him personally, but he has come to our aid," Mulaudzi said. Hlati said he received many applications, but most were for reasons which he felt were not serious.

"Some wanted me to donate money for braais, but I was touched by this letter to help children," he said.

He said he did not even know where the school was and telephoned for directions.

"Some pupils were sitting on the floor and this reminded me of my youth back in Mozambique, something I do not want to see pupils today going through," he said.

He said his help should be an example to other wealthy people to support worthy causes.

Hlati became a sangoma in 1982 and has a number of surgeries.

He is no stranger to helping people, particularly school children from poor backgrounds.
