Bloemfontein Celtic honoured their best performers for the 2006-07 season last Thursday at the year-end awards ceremony held at the City Hall in Bloemfontein.

The players were rewarded for their impressive form, which contributed to Phunya Selesele qualifying for the SAA Supa 8 tournament.

Two defenders came out tops as they were chosen the best performers of the season.

Rock solid Ugandan international defender Timothy Batabaire walked home R60000 richer for scooping two prestigious awards.

He was named Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year, for which he received R50000 and R10000.

The Uganda star shared the Players' Player award with fellow defender Thabo Nthethe, who also collected the Most Improved Player award, receiving R20000 for a total of R30000. Both defenders received standing ovations.

Rising goal poacher Petrus Mahlatsi, who was on national duty with Bafana Bafana, scooped the Golden Boot award as the top goalscorer with 12 goals. Mahlatsi scored seven goals in the league and five in the Absa Cup. He received R20000.

Workaholic midfielder and inspirational club captain John Maduka was named the Sportsman of the Year and pocketed R10000.
