Plans to clear up all major KwaZulu-Natal cities of street children and homeless people are afoot ahead of the 2010 World Cup.

KwaZulu-Natal provincial government leaders say the plan will include job opportunities and skills training for those affected while those without education will be sent to school.

Those still unemployed on the streets will be encouraged to become car guards and parking attendants during the football tournament.

Speaking to street children and homeless people Meshack Hadebe, the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for social welfare, said his department was determined to clean up all the cities in the province of street children and pavement dwellers before the Soccer World Cup in 2010.

"We want to ensure that there are no hiccups before, during and after the tournament, and will remove all homeless people off the streets of the big cities."

He said by December next year, all homeless people will have been removed from the streets of the major cities, including Durban.
