Sowetan and the Development Bank of Southern Africa are strengthening their nation-building relationship through the Enoch Kegakilwe Charity Soccer Challenge.
The initiative honours the bank's soccer team leader and committed community-builder Enoch Kegakilwe, who passed away in 2005. It also seeks to broaden the bank's and Sowetan's corporate social responsibility.
Sowetan and the DBSA also sponsor and organise the National Schools Essay Competition on Albinism, together with the Albinism Society of South Africa and the national Health and Education departments.
Teams will take part in the five-a-side soccer tournament at the John Orr Technikon soccer grounds in Milpark, Johannesburg, on June 10 from 9am.
Bringing together female and male soccer sides, the tourney will award cash prizes of R12000, R5000, R4000 and R3000 to the four best men's teams and R4000 and R2000 to the two top women's teams. The winners will also get gold, silver and bronze medals.
Sowetan, the media sponsor, views the tournament as an additional activity of its Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation.
Other partners in the soccer challenge supporting the ideals of the Let's Play campaign are the City of Johannesburg and Diepsloot Sport Forum.
This year the tournament supports sports development in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg, where more than 150000 people live.
