Man held over sliced off ears

A second man was arrested in Ivory Park in North Rand yesterday for allegedly cutting off parts of a man's ears.

A second man was arrested in Ivory Park in North Rand yesterday for allegedly cutting off parts of a man's ears.

Police spokesman Superintendent Eugene Opperman said the man and two of his friends had allegedly cut off parts of Samuel Moyana's ears after he refused to give them a cellphone and money as they tried to rob him on Sunday.

The man, 18, is expected to appear in the Tembisa magistrates' court today, said Opperman.

The first suspect, Castigo Mashaba, 23, was arrested shortly after the incident on Sunday.

Mashaba appeared in the Tembisa magistrates' court on Monday and Wednesday and pleaded guilty to charges of attempted robbery and assault with the intent to inflict serious bodily harm. He will appear in court again on May 30.

Police were still looking for a third suspect, Opperman said. - Sapa
