Kaizer Chiefs will embark on a major overhaul for the 2007-08 season.

Amakhosi, who missed out on a chance to defend their SAA Supa 8 title in a bad season, will offload nine players but will only make an announcement next week, said the team's manager Bobby "Bobsteak" Motaung yesterday.

"We'll see who goes and who stays, but we're going to offload a large number of the playing staff," he said.

"We went through a bad spell and now it is time for us to start to rebuild a team for the new season."

The side that used to dominate the Supa 8 competition in all its guises were denied the right to take part in this lucrative competition.

They lost 2-1 to Silver Stars last weekend and that put paid to their chances of defending their crown.

Motaung, who decided not to extend coach Kosta Papic's contract, conceded that they had a bad season.

Chiefs had won the top eight competition 14 times and were determined to defend their crown in the new season.

Motaung declined to say which coach they were talking to, though Owen da Gama was associated with Amakhosi.

But insiders believe they will be going for a foreign coach in the new season.

Meanwhile, former Moroka Swallows mentor Gavin Hunt joined SuperSport United on Tuesday.
