No such thing as Natal Sharks

The Natal Sharks are indeed a shame for KwaZulu-Natal.

The Natal Sharks are indeed a shame for KwaZulu-Natal.

When the Blue Bulls defeated the Natal Sharks, I celebrated with the Bulls. I come from KwaZulu-Natal and I grew up in a township called KwaMashu in Durban and whenever I went to Durban Country Club as a caddy I would pass through the then King's Park Rugby Stadium and the then Natal Rugby team would be either practicing or getting ready to play.

A lot has changed since then. As we all know, the finals of the Super 14 were played at the Absa Stadium. The Natal Sharks were playing against the former Northern Transvaal team, now called the Blue Bulls. I celebrated with the Bulls because surely they do not offend anybody since they have dropped the Transvaal part of their name.

Natal Sharks? Which Natal do you come from? The former Natal Cricket team is now called the KwaZulu-Natal Dolphins and I support them. The reason I cannot support the Natal Sharks is because there is no such place in South Africa called Natal anymore.

It was there before 1994 and if there are people out there who want certain sections of South Africans to permanently live in the past. I would like to say to them, move on to a new South Africa where you can enjoy the majestic province of KwaZulu-Natal.

In a nutshell, the Natal part of the Natal Sharks is an embarrassment and a shame for many of us who live in KwaZulu-Natal. Please drop it, there is no such place in our country.
