Laughing lands neighbour behind bars

A woman who laughed at her sick neighbour and shouted on the street that she had Aids was sentenced to four months in prison with an option of a R1000 fine.

Busi Magagula, of Salubindza trust near Hazyview, Mpumalanga, was found guilty of defamation of character in the Masoyi periodical court and has paid the fine.

Police said in January Magagula shouted at Nokwazi Mogane: "Congratulations, buhle buphelile, [the beauty is gone], you are dying of Aids."

Mogane did not have Aids and has now recovered from her illness.

Limpopo organiser of the Treatment Action Campaign , Mashudu Mfomande, said there were many similar cases but few get to court. - Sakhile Mokoena
