Nick Durandt has warned challenger William Gare that he is taking a risk by fighting Peter Mashamaite for the South African super middleweight title at the Orlando Communal hall on June 15.

"These are the same people who predicted a sweet victory for Mbwana Matumla against Silence Mabuza last week.

"I want to hear their reaction now that Matumla counted the stars in five rounds," he said.

He also said that Gare, the "gentleman of boxing", has gone past his sell by date.

"I respect Gare a lot, but I think he is risking his career against a young, very strong and hard-hitting fighter such as Mashamaite."

Gare, the former South African and WBC International junior middleweight champion, failed twice to reclaim the junior middleweight belt from Vincent Vuma, who is also Durandt's fighter.
