Top golfers will tee off in the yearly Sanlam Cancer Challenge at the Soweto Country Club in Pimville tomorrow.

The event, that is played by more than 40 000 golfers throughout the country, is used to raise funds for cancer patients.

Organiser Davis Diphoko said the format will be individual stableford and the event will be divided into three categories, the A, the B and C sections.

"We're appealing to companies and business houses to come on board and donate, because the event is for a worthy cause. The proceeds go to the Cancer Foundation," said Diphoko.

Regional manager of Cancer South Africa Lindelwa Keikelame said Sanlam has been the main sponsor of this event since it was started in 1993.

"We encourage companies to sponsor a hole or a green because we're hoping to collect a substantial amount on Saturday.

"With cancer affecting one in four South Africans, Cancer South Africa welcomes all efforts to fight cancer and save lives," said Keikelame.
