The ANC Youth League could not hide its annoyance that business tycoon and ANC leader Tokyo Sexwale has made himself available for the party's - and country's - presidency, if nominated.
When asked about Sexwale's availability for the presidency at a press briefing in Johannesburg yesterday, Fikile Mbalula, after a long pause, said: "There is little you can say about that."
Mbalula attacked Sexwale without mentioning his name once, for having "uncontrollable desire for power".
He said: "His name should be raised and nominated in the ANC branches. You can never announce your availability through the media because there are ANC processes. Every member of the ANC has a right to stand, but there are processes."
Sexwale, who earlier this year claimed reports that he was eyeing the presidency were false, told the BBC on Monday he would consider nomination at ANC's December conference if his name was proposed.
Mbalula said the league would still back Jacob Zuma.
