Matric mathematics and physical science pupils in five provinces will benefit from a corporate social responsibility partnership.

TDS Directory Operations, which produces the Yellow Pages and the Phone Book, and Prime Stars, a division of media company Primedia, will conduct extensive matric revision classes in Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape over 10 weeks, starting next month.

Maths and science pose a problem to many teachers and pupils, especially in former disadvantaged schools. Interventions by private companies will fulfil the ideals of the national strategy for these subjects in the general and further education and training bands.

These initiatives also help the national skills development agenda of the Aggrey Klaaste Mathematics, Science and Technology Educator of the Year Awards, which are sponsored and organised by Sowetan and the Telkom Foundation. - Victor Mecoamere
