Ben Elton's smash hit Popcorn returns to the Johannesburg Civic Theatre from May 25 and will run until July 1.

And this time around the cast is a talented group who have made an impression on audiences, especially on TV, for their diverse roles.

The play, which pokes fun at violent movie directors like Quentin Tarantino, made a huge impact on local theatre audiences when it first performed here in 1999.

This time around it will be interesting to see how the star cast will account for themselves on stage.

Many will remember Kim Engelbrecht, one of the play's two leads, psycho killer Scout, who shot to fame as Lolly in leading soapie Isidingo, and who is now with Zero Tolerance.

You also know Carl Beukes, Scout's partner in crime, Wayne, who also has a role in Isidingo.

Those who have seen the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie must remember Samantha Peo's stunning performance early this year at the Civic. She plays the role of a nude model, Brooke Daniels.

The setting is the home of film director Bruce Delamitri, played by actor and TV presenter Ashley Dowds. He has just won an Oscar when his girlfriend (Peo), his former wife and daughter are taken hostage by fugitives from the law, Scout and Wayne.

Diarise May 25 for the opening of what promises to be a great show.
