Do shed a light, Komphela

I would like to react to sentiments made by one of the listeners in reaction to Butana Komphela of parliament's sports portfolio. I don't understand why South Africa politicians are only vocal when there are important cups to play for.

What is it that they do every day to ensure that there is progress in those mandates given to the sports bodies? We had Safa huffing and puffing when the national team played badly but only with things such as hiring a coach or a chief executive do you hear politicians making a noise. We had our cricket team displaying a dismal performance at the recent Cricket World Cup but Komphela did not demand answers. Now he is busy with rugby, which for years has not bothered to comply.

The reaction by the portfolio committee indicates that the committee is not doing its work properly. They want to disguise their incompetence by going to the media and complaining as if they expected better performances.

I suggest that Komphela publicly sheds light on why it is difficult to deal with these issues when there is time available rather than when the damage is done.

Much as I support him in getting these organisations in order, I will be happy when his house is in order. We do not like political gimmicks when we want to focus on our sports.
