The people of Virginia, in the Free State, are mourning the death of the popular Peter Mosioua Nhlapo.
Nhlapo was born on January1 1941 in Virginia to Manteye and Chacha Nhlapo. He died after a long illness on May4.
Nhlapo was nicknamed "Pro" because of his soccer prowess during his days at Virginia Killers FC. Those who were fortunate to see him play say he was a ball juggler of note.
A staunch Orlando Pirates supporter, Nhlapo also enjoyed playing tennis and golf. He was once a soccer referee for Harmony gold mine in Virginia.
A tall, dark and handsome man, Nhlapo would not have hurt a fly. His love for his fellow human beings led to him being ordained deacon in the Roman Catholic Church.
Nhlapo was a true role model and a great family man.
At the height of apartheid, when certain jobs were reserved for whites, Nhlapo was among the first group of blacks to be appointed a hostel manager at Harmony gold mine. He worked at the mine until his retirement.
Nhlapo was a truly humble man and never looked down on anyone. Everyone who knew him agrees that the world is the poorer without Nhlapo.
He is survived by his wife, Malehlohonolo, siblings, children and grandchildren.
Nhlapo will be buried in Virginia tomorrow. The service starts at 9am at St Augustine's Roman Catholic Church.
